Fingers spitting fire on the keyboard. Targets hanging over your head with a sword’s edge. And your head is spinning by the time you leave office after 5 o’ clock.

But there’s no respite still. Summers are in, so long sweaty days are here. Not everyday you can have an ice-cold beer in your hands and rip off the tenderly cooked Chicken starters. So what can you do to keep yourself cool and refreshing throughout the season?


Lucky for the workaholics, there’s a variety of chilled drinks you can find around. We sipped and slurped our way to listing the most loved summer drinks in India.

  1. Shikanji

It is one famous and traditional lemonade in Northern India. Shikanji is always made with fresh lemon juice and spiced with some black salt and roasted cumin powder. Always drink it chilled.

  1. Aam Panha

This is the first choice of people in summer. It’s sour in test and made from unripe mangoes, salt, cumin powder, chillies, coriander leaves and mint. It maintains body temperature in summer.

  1. Chaach

Buttermilk is also known as Majige, Tak, Moru or Chaach, a slightly sour milk best to have in warm climate. It’s full of probiotic bacteria and thus very good for the stomach.

  1. Fruit Shake

You’ll find a lot of good fruit shake stalls by the roadside or near the traffic squares. Fruits are good for the health as well as a good way to beat the summer heat. Mango shake is the hot favourite of the masses.

  1. Lassi

The most popular and traditional Yogurt based drink, Lassi originates in the Punjab region and is another cooling and refreshing drink to have in the summers. Mango Lassi, Sweet Lassi and Bhang Lassi are few popular variation to the normal Lassi.

  1. Lemon Soda

This drink has been there since pre-historic times and is the favourite of the aam aadmi of our nation. It’s sold with ice and copious amounts of black salt added. You can have it sweet too. It’s the poor man’s Virgin Mojito in India.

  1. Tender Coconut Juice

It’s the natural refreshment drink in the summers, heavily preferred in South India. It’s known as Elaneer in most parts. It’s enriched with nutrients and is a favourite drink for the health-freaks.
